This study compared anxiety & depressive symptoms between suicide attempters & non-suicide inpatients & determined the differences in the Hospital Anxiety & Depression Scale items between the 2 groups. 50 Turkish suicide attempters were age-matched with 50 inpatients hospitalized for general medical complaints. The suicide attempters had significantly higher rates of previous psychiatric history, psychiatric hospitalization, family history, & alcohol/substance use. The suicide attempters scored significantly higher on tension, anhedonia, fear, loss of humour, restlessness, & lack of enjoyment. (45 refs.) JA
