Through the analysis of forensic data, media coverage, & clinical case records of officers who died by suicide or attempted suicide or who were evaluated for suicide, this chapter presents an analysis of the importance of family factors in both the cause & treatment of suicide potential in police officers. Family intervention tactics that encourage active involvement, rituals, & motivational family planning prove to be the most logical route to working within the family system. Extended case studies lead to a step-by-step, session-by-session protocol on how to treat a family in this type of crisis & lead them from stagnation to active living as a family unit. JA
