This article explores the relationship between suicide ideation & disability. In the survey of psychiatric morbidity in Great Britain, 8580 randomly selected adults were interviewed. Data on suicide ideation & activity of daily living limitation was available for 8513 of those surveyed. The independent association of suicide ideation & specific activity of daily living limitations was greatest in older people. The strength of the association increased with the number of activity of daily living domains affected & was of similar magnitude for most individual domains. In those with limitation in activity of daily living, limited social support remained independently associated with suicide ideation. (26 refs.) JA
