Associations among types of physical activity & hopelessness, depression, & suicidal behaviour were explored among 43,499 college students, ages 18-25, who completed the 2005 National College Health Assessment. Logistic regression modelling was used. Men & women who engaged in some physical activity each week demonstrated a reduced risk of hopelessness, depression, & suicidal behaviour compared with their inactive counterparts. This study provides empirical evidence that establishes the association between physical activity, especially aerobic activity, & reduced risk of hopelessness, depression, & suicidal behaviour among college students.
