Suicide Ideation Across Reproductive Life Cycle of Women: Results From a European Epidemiological Study

This study compared suicide ideation among women in the pre-, peri-, & post-menopause using a cross-sectional household survey of non-institutionalized adults from 6 European countries. 8794 out of 21,425 respondents provided data. To use men as a comparison group, 3 different groups of males were defined based on the mean age of the female groups. An increased risk of suicide ideation was found among women in their peri-menopause compared with women in their pre- or post-menopause & men. This finding was independent of mood & anxiety disorders. (14 refs.) JA
