This instrumental study examined gender differences of school anger components & its prediction for suicidal behaviour. 1418 high school students were selected through stratified random sampling in Shiraz. Girls experienced anger more than boys but hostility was higher in boys. There was no gender difference regarding positive coping expression of anger or destructive coping expression. The hostile outlook score & destructive expression of anger score were positively related to all suicidal behaviours. A positive coping strategy for anger was not a predictor of suicidal behaviour. Adolescents who had not attempted suicide did not report higher positive coping strategies as a means of managing or expressing angry feelings than adolescents who had attempted suicide. (26 refs.) JA
