A few studies have focused on Latina teens but none have explored why their suicide attempt rates are higher than their non-Hispanic counterparts. The authors constructed a conceptual model to provide a formulation of this phenomenon on the basis of a review of the literature on suicide attempts among Latinas & their clinical experience. This model can serve as a framework to guide research on the unique sociocultural processes present in Latina adolescent suicide attempts & may also benefit the work of clinicians. (87 refs.) JA
