This report summarizes key clinical messages from the Treatment for Adolescents With Depression Study (TADS). Findings revealed that 6 to 9 months of combined fluoxetine plus cognitive-behavioural therapy should be the modal treatment from a public health perspective as well as to maximize benefits & minimize harms for individual patients. Findings also showed that across 36 weeks of treatment, patients treated with fluoxetine alone were twice as likely as patients treated with combined fluoxetine plus cognitive-behavioural therapy or cognitive-behavioural therapy alone showed clinically significant suicide ideation & to experience treatment-emergent suicidal events.
