In this letter to the editor, Clark & Fawcett note Hoyer & Lund’s proposal that their 1993 study is the first prospective one of a large size focusing on the association between family size & suicide among women is not correct as other investigators since Veevers in 1973 have reported similar evidence or offered the same hypothesis. Nevertheless, they say Hoyer & Lund’s study is a remarkable contribution to the epidemiology of suicide. Hoyer & Lund’s reply follows. (9 refs.)
