This paper reports on a study of people living with HIV to examine the experience of depressive symptoms, self-care symptom management strategies, symptom outcomes in response to those strategies, & sources from which the strategies were learned. A subset of 34 HIV-positive men & women from a larger study reported experiencing depressive symptoms. 7 of the 34 participants reported suicide ideation. Overall, 92% of management strategies were reported as helpful. The main sources of information for management strategies were trial & error, healthcare providers, & family & friends. (56 refs.)
