In this editorial, the author discusses suicidal behaviour among war veterans examining the role of comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder & depression. Sher has previously proposed that some, or all, individuals diagnosed with comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder & major depressive disorder have a separate psychobiological condition he calls “posttraumatic mood disorder”. He outlines a model of suicidal behaviour in war veterans with posttraumatic mood disorder. The editorial concludes with a brief description of suicide prevention in war veterans. (13 refs.)
