This study analyzed meteorological conditions at the time of attempted or completed suicides & examined the possible link between the changes of meteorological factors & the frequency of suicidal behaviour in the Mostar region, Bosnia. Results showed meteorological factors of the days with suicidal behaviour were similar to the day prior, but there was a significant difference between meteorological factors of the days with suicidal behaviour & average monthly values of meteorological factors. Maximum pressure was significantly lower in the days with suicidal risk as was the pressure gradient. Suicide attempts occurred most frequently in April. Meteorological factors do not act as an acute stress factor for suicidal behaviour but its change over time may be the trigger for a suicide attempt. (29 refs.) JA
