This report presents the results of an evaluation of the StandBy Response Service, a program designed to respond to suicide incidents & suicide bereavement. Qualitative (on-site interviews & observations in trial locations) & quantitative (survey) findings suggest the service does increase a community’s capacity to respond appropriately & effectively to suicide & suicidal behaviours. Analysis showed clients of StandBy had a reduced incidence of suicide ideation when compared to those bereaved by suicide but who had not had contact with the service. StandBy clients showed substantial improvements in results for both happiness & vitality over the course of the longitudinal evaluation. The service was also shown to help the ability of clients to live with their loss over time.
