Recent trends in the incidence & methods of suicide in Singapore, over 1991-2000, were compared with the results of a previous study covering 1975-1984. Results of the present study showed the crude suicide rate had stabilised over the last decade & that the rate was highest among elderly males. Comparison of the results of both studies showed the crude rate had stabilised over the last two decades. However, there was an increase in the suicide rates among males as compared with the previous study & a marginal decrease in suicide rates among females. There was also an appreciable change in the methods used. (10 refs.)
