In this letter to the editor, the authors comment on an article by Villeneuve et al which reported an increased suicide rate among women who received breast implants or other cosmetic surgery compared with the general population. Didie & Phillips raise the possibility that some women may have had body dysmorphic disorder & suggest that this disorder be considered as a risk factor for suicide in women receiving cosmetic surgery.
