This study examined whether the IL-10 -1082, IFN-gamma +874, & TNF-alpha -308 polymorphisms were associated with suicidal behviour. 145 patients with suicidal behaviour & 160 controls were genotyped using the ASO-PCR method. TNF-alpha -308 G/G genotype was increased in males who died by suicide versus control group subjects. IL-10 -1082 A/A genotype was higher in both male & female suicides. IFN-gamma (+874) A/A genotype was significantly higher in males who died by suicide versus male controls. It is concluded these polymorphisms may play a role in suicidal behaviour. (46 refs.)
