This article discusses a retrospective investigation by the Correctional Service of Canada of inmate suicides, April 1992-March 1994. The purpose of the investigation was to try to determine why a sudden increase in suicides happened & whether this signified a new trend. Implications of the findings for prevention are reviewed.
