A Five-Year Prospective Study of Presentations to A&E for Deliberate Self-Harm

This report discusses data collected on deliberate self-harm presentations to an accident & emergency department in Wales across a 5-year period, 1996-2000. The aims of the study are: to model the presentation of this behaviour in order to identify high-risk individuals or groups; to compare any identified trends in the mixed urban/rural population with those exhibited by other populations; to identify the factors characteristic of repetition versus single acts; & to compare outcomes in patients who have received different approaches to or levels of intervention.
