In this guest editorial, the author discusses the “tipping point” concept as it may apply to suicidal behaviour. Using the increase in young male suicide in Australia as an example, the question is asked whether relatively minor changes in some sociological factors could suddenly result in a breaching of the tipping point for suicide with a resultant dramatic increase.
