This presentation discussed suicidal behaviour in a paediatric population. A chart review was done of all 505 patients admitted to a Toronto childrens’ hospital for self-inflicted injury during 1970-1976. Charts of matched control patients were also examined. Data was collected on demograpics, family situation, pre-existing & current medical illness, pre-existing & current psychiatric illness, pre-existing & current contacts, pre-existing & current social problems, family history of medical illness, family history of mental illness, characteristics of the attempt, & treatment & follow-up. The various methods for analyzing this data were discussed.
