The presenter discussed a retrospective exploratory study done at the Homewood Sanitarium to identify those patients most at risk of dying by suicide. A sample of 43 patients who died by suicide, either in hospital or after discharge, between 1960-1974 was drawn. A method group was also rated independently. Results of the study enabled the hospital staff to identify high-risk patients & introduce appropriate inpatient & follow-up measures.
