This book brings together research on the phenomenon of suicide-by-cop. Topics covered include: definitions, curent research, & case studies with an analysis of police situations in which they occur, descriptions of the perpetrator’s background, & the motivation to engage in this behaviour. The psychological aftermath of these incidents for police officers is discussed. Suicide risk among police officers is examined & a new concept of “suicide by suspect” – police officers who intentionally place themselves in harm’s way in order to die is introduced.
