This document is the Maine state strategy for youth suicide prevention. The long-term goal is to reduce the incidence of fatal & non-fatal suicidal behaviour among Maine youth, age 10-24. The strategy has 10 goals that are aligned with those of the American national suicide prevention strategy & include: increasing public/private partnerships; increasing public awareness; developing & implementing strategies to reduce stigma; increasing the number of schools & communities implementing effective youth suicide prevention activities; reducing access to lethal means; implementing training for a variety of audiences; developing & promoting effective clinical & professional practices; improving access to & links among community agencies; improving media coverage; & improving the understanding of fatal & non-fatal suicidal behaviours among Maine youth.
