This study examines the correlates of suicide ideation, suicide plan, & suicide attempt among Asian Americans, focusing on nativity & gender. The sample comprised 998 adult men & 1,097 adult women. Analysis of weighted lifetime prevalence of suicidal behaviours revealed that United States-born Asian American women had a higher prevalence of suicide ideation & suicide plan than United States-born Asian American men & immigrant Asian American men & women. In multivariates analyses controlling for sociodemographic differences, differences in suicidal behaviours are found only between American-born women & American-born men. Findings show the need to disaggregate data by immigrant status as well as sociodemograpic correlates. (36 refs.)
