This study investigated suicide notes drawn from Mexico & the United States as these countries share geographical proximity, but markedly different cultures & suicide rates. A theoretical conceptual analysis of 102 suicide notes, matched for age & gender, was undertaken based on a thematic model of suicide developed by Leenaars across countries. The inter-judge reliability was adequate. The results suggested there are more psychological commonalities than differences. However, as this study is the first one using suicide notes from Mexico & the United Staes, more study is warranted. (46 refs.)
