This study surveyed the background circumstances of parental child homicide in Sweden, relating them to an evolutionary model that children with low fitness value to their parents will be more at risk in conflict situations. Results showed many children were victims of of an extended suicide which often included several members of the family. Stepparents were found to have died by suicide after the homicide(s) less frequently than genetic parents (0% versus 38%). An evolutionary model had limited explanatory value. (34 refs.)
