The Prevalence of Suicide and Violence Assessment/Intervention Courses in CACREP- and COAMFTE-Accredited Counseling Curriculums (IN: Compelling Counseling Interventions: VISTAS 2009, edited by G R Walz, J C Bleuer, & R K Yep)

The author sought to locate counsellor education master’s degree programs which offered suicide &/or violence assessment & intervention courses in CACREP- & COAMFTE-accredited curriculums. Considerably more COAMFTE-accredited marriage & family therapy programs were found to have a domestic violence assessment/intervention course than CACREP-accredited programs. A suicide assessment/intervention course was found to be rare in both types of programs. Possible reasons for the lack of these courses are discussed and recommendations are made for continuing education. (7 refs.)
