This document provides a position statement on suicide bereavement & postvention from Suicide Prevention Australia. This agency believes greater emphasis must be placed on the continuity of care & safety nets for those bereaved by suicide. In addition, there needs to be recognition that a bereaved individual’s needs may change over time & as such, they must be assured that a breadth of services will be available & accessible as & when required. It is also important that support mechanisms be provided which allow affected individuals to address their own perceptions of stigma & restore internal social structures & communications to help find meaning in their losses.
