In this letter to the editor, the authors comment on a study by Ajdacic-Gross et al (2007) on seasonal associations between weather conditions & suicide. Although the authors agree the methodology used would be very useful for evidencing the effect of a singular variable, it may not be the most direct way of isolating climatic from nonclimatic seasonal effects on behaviour. They conclude the issue should be addressed more thoroughly in large epidemiologic studies that also account for variables related to individual features & use more comprehensive hierarchical mixed models.
