This publication examines the overlapping phenomena of injury & violence from a public health perspective. Worldwide, injuries account for about 1 in 8 male deaths & 1 in 14 female deaths. An estimated two-thirds of these fatalities are unintentional while the remaining one-third of fatal injuries are caused intentionally, including deaths by suicide. Suicide is the primary cause of injury mortality in China & suicide rates are higher in other parts of Asia & in more developed countries than in the rest of the world.
