This article presents the current epidemiology on suicide among American Indians & Alaskan Natives. The data show a very high rate in the young, especially males. Beyond the general, the article offers a unique look into a suicidal young person, through a psychological autopsy. A case illustration, a 16-year-old male who died by suicide, is outlined. Discussion, the author’s words, & current efforts of Indian Health Services are presented, but it is concluded that much greater effort is needed. (10 refs.)
