Published reports on suicide & the Holocaust identified by means of a Medline literature search were reviewed. A similar search was performed on the Internet using the Google search engine. 13 studies were found, 9 of which addressed the association of suicide & the Holocaust experience. 4 focussed on suicide in the concentration camps during the genocide. An increased rate of suicide ideation & suicide attempts among the elderly who were exposed to the Holocaust was confirmed. There is a need for further study & resource allocation for the growing number of elderly persons who suffered trauma earlier in their lives. (16 refs.)
