Thus study evaluated the use of the 5-item Brief Symptom Rating Scale as a screening instrument for the prediction of suicide ideation in psychiatric, community & general medical settings in Taiwan. 501 psychiatric, 1,040 community, & 969 general medical participants were recruited. The community participants completed a structured telephone interview & the other 2 groups completed the Brief Symptom Rating Scale. The structural equation model showed the same symptom domains that predicted suicide ideation for all 3 groups. This rating scale was found to be an efficient tool for screening for suicide ideation in all 3 groups. (28 refs.)
