Chapman J F~~Ford J D
This article examines relationships among determinants of suicidal ideation utilizing various screening instruments. 757 consecutive youth admitted to detention in Connecticut were included in this study. In bivariate & multivariate analyses (controlling for demographic & Massachusetts Youth Screening Instrument 2 scores), relationships were found between the Traumatic Experiences & Alcohol & Drug Use subscales of the Massachusetts Youth Screening Instrument 2 & the Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire. The potential impact of traumatic stress & substance use symptoms in understanding & detecting youth at risk for suicide is discussed. (61 refs.)
