A cross-sectional study was conducted in seven regions of rural Ethiopia. The health, social, & psychological problems encountered by women with treated & untreated obstetric fistula were assessed. 52 women were interviewed. Of the 48 women with feelings of depression, 28 had suicide ideation. Treatment of the fistula did not completely resolve the issues faced by these women. Their care should include support for their reintegration into the community & proper follow-up. (15 refs.)
