Qualitative & quantitative differences in broad & narrow personality traits between one-time & repeated suicide attempters were investigated in a longitudinal, population-based sample of young French Canadian adults using multivariate regression models. One broad (compulsivity) & one narrow (anxiousness) personality trait differentiated between individuals with histories of repeated & one-time suicide attempts. Affective instability & anxiousness, on the other hand, differentiated between nonattempters & one-time suicide attempters. (73 refs.)
