Lester (1995) reported that domestic protests in Canada from 1960-1985 were associated with lower rates of suicide & homicide. Data on protests in West Germany from 1965-1989 were available permitting an examination of these associations. Suicide rates were not associated with the total number of protests each year, the number of demonstrations, the number of confrontations, the number of incidents involving light violence or the number involving heavy violence. Data from West Germany did not replicate the results for Canada. (2 refs.)
