Body dysmorphic disorder is a common & severe psychiatric malady that often masquerades as other disorders & is usually missed in clinical practice. Nearly one-quarter of patients seen in a clinical setting have attempted suicide. Psychological & pharmacological therapies are discussed. (20 refs.)
