This study examined the possible association between consanguinity & the incidence of deliberate self-burning in Iran. Data were obtained by analysis of patient medical records from two burn centres. The incidence of suicidal burns was 6.51 & 2.32/100,000 person-years for Bushehr & Yazd provinces respectively. There was a female predominance in cases. A significant correlation was found between incidences of self-burning & mean coefficient of inbreeding. (20 refs.)
