The first part of this article examines suicide among American college students & the evolution of suicide liability law. Part 2 outlines various suicide prevention policies utilized by college & universities & the legal & ethical implications of each. The last part of the article urges courts to let colleges adopt mandatory evaluation policies that are conditioned on involuntary dismissal for suicidal students because such policies limit colleges’ liability, & more importantly, save lives.
