This article is a summary of an investigation into men, ranging in age from 15-34, who died by suicide in England & Wales in 1991. 1,934 people who had completed suicide were studied. Results show 80% of the people who had died by suicide were men. There has been a steady increase in the number of young male suicides since the 1970s. The author concludes local strategies are ineffective & primary care in not the answer. Recommendations for future strategies are discussed.(CH)
