Approximately 10% of Australian newspaper, television, & radio items on suicide retrieved over a 12-month period were rated for quality. Reporting of suicide was extensive; 4813 items were found. The nature of reporting was variable. Items tended to be about completed suicide & most commonly involved content related to an individual’s experiences, policy/programme initiatives, &/or suicide statistics, although there were differences across media types. The median total quality score was 57.1%. In general, good items outnumbered poorer items. (36 refs.)
