How Healthy are Rural Canadians? An Assessment of Their Health Status and Health Determinants
Canadian Population Health Initiative
This report examines patterns of selected socio-demographic & economic characteristics, health status & health behaviours, focussing on differences between rural & urban Canadians. In men of all ages, there was still an independent & significant association between place of residence & suicide mortality, even after controlling for important determinants of health. Among women, the association disappeared or become statistically lower as they got older except among adolescents & young women living in No Metropolitan Influenced Zone areas.
