Death and Suicide Among Former Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Patients

A study in Sweden addressed the topic of whether child & adolescent psychiatry patients are at risk for premature death. The method for obtaining this information was done through collecting hospital files, SwedenÁøs census data, administrative data, and the Cause of Death register. The results showed that there were important predictors among those who died by suicide. Current opinions must change on preventing suicide among children and adolescents to include strong cooperation with social services and school authorities. (26 refs.)(CH)
