Patients with antidepressant poisoning admitted to an emergency department in Izmir, Turkey between 1993-2004 were analysed retrospectively. A total of 356 cases were evaluated, 347 of which were suicide attempts. Of these, 280 patients had attempted suicide only once while 67 had attempted suicide more than two times. Suicide attempts were one of the criteria found to affect the need for intubation in these patients. (34 refs.)
