Focus groups with Elders were held in each Canadian Inuit region to gather information about the values & methods that helped Inuit overcome problems & survive even when life was very difficult. Several traditional values were identified from which specific helping & coping behaviours arose. The Elders also provided guidelines to help prevent the loss of hope & belief & for helping those who feel distressed. A number of specific helpful activities for those grieving the death of a loved one were discussed.
