This Commission was established to study the problems & gaps in the mental health system in the United States & to make concrete recommendations for immediate improvements that all levels of government, local agencies, & public & private health care providers can implement. 6 goals & the ways in which these can be achieved are presented. The goals are: public awareness that mental health is essential to overall health; making mental health care consumer & family driven; eliminating disparities in mental health services; early screening, assessment, & referral to services; excellence in service delivery & acceleration in research; & using technology to access mental health care & information.
