Abstract
Suicide Rates and Antidepressant Prescribing: a Casual or Causal Relationship?
Baune B~~Hay P
The authors review a study by Milane et al (2006) on the temporal association between specific serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressants & suicide rates in the United States. The methodology of the study, its key findings, strengths & limitations, & the implications for clinicians & policymakers are discussed. The present authors conclude Milane et al’s study does not support an association between increased suicide & increased fluoxetine prescription rates. (4 refs.)
