Park H S~~Schepp K G~~et al
This study examined the main effect of risk factors from 5 domains & protective factors from 1 domain in relation to suicide ideation by gender & identified the most important predictors of suicide ideation by gender. Multivariate analysis indicated the most important predictors for males were history of suicide attempt, depression, hostility, smoking, parental alcohol abuse, communication with friends, & self-esteem. For females, the most important predictors were depression, hostility, sexual orientation, & self-estemm. Effective suicide screening & prevention programs for adolescents should consider gender differences. (29 refs.)
