A number of research studies have provided evidence there is a significantly higher risk of suicide in rural areas of the United Kingdom & that farmers are a high risk group. In this preliminary study the factors that cause Mid-Wales farmers most stress were investigated in a convenience sample of farmers attending the Royal Welsh Show. Results showed government policy, finance, & time pressure were the factors that farmers found most stressful. Isolation consistently achieved the lowest rating of the stressors. The results are consistent with other British studies. (21 refs.)
